Mexico Mission Trip 2008 |
| The PSAA concert choir contributed 4 songs along with the band's 4 songs. Other performers included Alexis Milam and Natalie Dorland with piano solos, as well as Sasha Swenson and Elizabeth Beddoe performing together in a Violin duet. Ms. Clark recited a meaningful Christmas reading to add a message to the concert as a whole, and PSAA’s resident acappella group En Voyce also contributed the song “O come, O come, Emmanuel". The concert was a very enjoyable experience and aside from a few minor mistakes was pulled off to near perfection. We all look forward to next years Christmas Program

Mexico Mission Trip 2008
~Megan Cleveland
At school that morning, great anticipation was in the air. Luggage lining the hall ways and students gathered in groups with apparent excitement in their eyes and voices. It was the morning we were to leave on the mission trip.
After a send-off chapel with the entire student body from PSAA, the junior and seniors piled into vans and were on our way to the airport. The chaos of checking in and going through security did not seem to hinder our spirits any. We boarded the plane and embarked on a two hour and forty-five minute plane ride to San Diego. |
 |
 |
Unfortunately, when we got to the airport, things were not quite prepared for us. We sat in the designated smoking area in front of the airport for an hour and a half until our vans arrived. Finally the vans arrived, and we loaded up for the second time that day and were then able to breathe properly (considering we were in the smoking section….). |
That night we stayed the night at San Diego Academy. After a night full of spider, shouting matches across the gym, and no showers, we once again got back into the vans and finally began our trip to Mexico. It was about forty minutes to the border, two and a half hours to Ensenada, and an hour to our final destination of Uruapan.
We stayed at the mission and our worksite was about a 10 minutes’ drive away, along with the house the kids currently lived in. After unloading our luggage and getting settled into our rooms, we went to see the kids for the first time. It was an experience we will not soon forget. |
 |
The next morning we prepared for our first day of work.

The Worksite |
 |
| The first few hours were tough to say the least; learning to lay brick. Mr. Plottner taught us all how to prepare the blocks, and butter them, and finally level them. At the beginning we all struggled, but by the end of the trip we were all professionals. After seven long days of work, we were able to put up a house; exterior and interior walls, built a small garage and started a laundry room, painted the kid’s current house, painted a clinic, dug trenches for rain water and put up a new trampoline for the kids. It was hard but rewarding work. |

Creating New Family
The kids were the best part of the trip…I miss them so much. Even though they did not have much to play with, they loved what they had. The way they cared for each other was that of a family that had blood relations. And soon they began to care for us that way too. Each one of us had a connection with each one of the kids that we will cherish and never forget.
Along with building an orphan house we hosted a Vacation Bible School. The first day of VBS, was rough because a lot of the kids were being rowdy and being uncooperative with us. But, it didn’t take long for them to warm up to us. For each VBS day different groups put on creative Bible skits which the kids absolutely loved. After the skits we would help them make crafts that connected with the skits. Helping them create something was often a challenge because they were always pre-occupied with our cameras. But they had so much fun playing with the cameras, taking pictures and videos that we couldn’t help but join in with them. Spending time with them was great.
The moments we shared with them are unforgettable. I hope we left the same imprint on their hearts as they did to us.
The End of the Semester
By Kayla Page and Iveta Bezman
Well the end of the semester is almost upon us. The students have worked hard and they are finally about to be rewarded with knowing that they are halfway done. For the seniors this is an especially exciting time because it means that they are only two quarters away from finishing high school for good. Seniors will also get to experience senior privileges in the next semester, getting to do things such as leaving campus to get lunch. The new semester is a clean slate. A chance to start over and improve your grades or if you’ve already been doing well a chance to keep your record good. Let’s hope everyone does well in the new semester and has a great time doing it.
Season is about to start.

After weeks of hard condition and practice the team is ready to go into battle. Yesterday was the first games of the season for both JV and Varsity. We got to start battle on our home floor against Rainer Christian, the Mustangs. As the first game of the night, began with the JV girls. The Sharks starting out strong, ending the first quarter ahead, but their size and height was starting to wear on us. The sharks remain strong to the end only losing by two points.
Next up was the JV boys, like the girls starting out strong also ahead in the first quarter. Their size was a huge factor in their game unlike the girl’s game, and the score slowly started to get farther and farther behind. The sharks one again did not give up and fourth quarter came around and we started to chip away at their, but with time working against the sharks we didn’t have enough time to even the score back up again.
As soon as you hear the words, “Introducing the tonight’s starting line up…” you know the varsity games are about to start. First up was the girls, this was the beginning of a very intense game. The sharks having played together for a couple years now had great connection and the game started out with the Sharks ahead. With the third quarter ending the sharks were starting to get a lead on the Mustangs. With four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter the lead was up to fifteen, most of us had already called the game. The Girls went on to win and made the tunnel for the long awaited varsity boy’s game.
The game started out rough with nervousness and a little confusion. The Sharks soon settled in and started to play some real basketball. The sharks being out scored in the first quarter, but that was the last quarter being out scored. With one minute remaining the score was tied, and the crowd was going crazy. Those finals seconds went by really slow due to both sides fouling, but the sharks getting their free throws to fall. Now taking the lead and keeping the Mustangs from tying the game. Sharks won and the crowd stormed the quart In celebration of the first win of the season.
