PSAA Connected
By Megan Cleveland, Derek Dizon, and Tricia Cunningham
What comes to mind when you think of connect? Connect the dots? Connect four? Magnets? Well…here at PSAA, Connect is a retreat our students enjoy each year, full of fun, bonding, and spiritual experiences. First off, students participate in some form of community service or outreach which helps set the mood for an excellent three days! Recently our school has gone under major remodeling, so this year students will be helping out around the school to finish up the work started this summer. On Thursday students are able to take on “breakout sessions” or class of their choice such as hiking, biking, marine biology, and photography.

2008 Sports Jamboree
By Kayla Page and Kierron-de' Brown
Sunday morning, September 21, fans and players rush onto campus for the 2008 Sports Jamboree. Cascade, Auburn, and PSAA ready themselves for a day of frolicking in the cloudy, sometimes rainy, weather.

Auburn and PSAA split their teams up into two teams, therefore making five teams total. The upper class PSAA soccer team tied the first Auburn team and beat the second team 2-1. The lower class PSAA soccer team also tied with the first Auburn team, but were undefeated against the second Auburn team and the Cascade team. The volleyball teams were also split up mixing the varsity and junior varsity teams together. There was a mixture of wins and losses, but overall they did quite good. Everyone who showed up had a wonderful time and lots of fun. |

Something unique about Connect is the Agape feast and Afterglow on Thursday evening. The Agape feast is a spiritual time where students have the choice of taking part in communion and washing feet. It is a great chance to experience a highly spiritual atmosphere, and is deeply moving for some students. Afterglow is a time of reflection where students can open up and receive support from their peers and teachers for any problems or difficulties that are hindering them. In the past years, it has been a memorable time for many students and has helped them to realize that they are not alone; their school family is there for them.

Some of the wonderful sports moms opened the concession stand and sold yummy and nutritious snacks. Thanks sports moms. If you missed out on the exciting Jamboree this year make sure to save the date for next year. You won’t want to miss it.

All in all Connect is a changing experience and is a must-attend, memory making, bonding retreat that sets the theme for the entire year.“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate; Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.” ~Ecclesiastes 3:11 & 12.

Interscholastic Cup Award
By Tosh Jones
The Interscholastic Cup is an award that recognizes the schools with the highest overall score for each of six categories. This award is calculated not only by the teams’ GPA, but their sportsmanship, and overall standings.
During the 2007-2008 season the PSAA girls’ (Lady Sharks) Basketball Team achieved second place overall in the WIAA, or Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, 2B league. First place was obtained by the Bear Creek School. There are 65 schools that compete for this Cup, and PSAA has never before gotten this close to winning. This upcoming season, 2008-2009, PSAA has a really good chance to win first place.
Ms. Anika Clark
By Erik Jensen
This year Ms. Clark, on top of teaching English, has also taken on the role of teaching Spanish classes. Looking to start the year off right, Ms. Clark has launched into a variety of exciting activities and projects to challenge and inspire her eager students.

In British Lit the students have been studying old English stories, such as Beowulf and the Canterbury tales. Recently students rapped the intro to Beowulf using the old English pronunciations, over a homegrown beat laid down by Ms. Clark herself. In freshman composition, the students have been reading short stories such as “The Most Dangerous Game”, and “The Lady and the Tiger” exploring democracy, totalitarianism, and the judicial system. In Spanish 1 Ms. Clark has started teaching basic Spanish phrases and vocabulary, while in Spanish 2 they are reviewing and preparing for future study. Finally in journalism, students have been preparing a weekly school newspaper, as well as working on submissions for outside publications and a newsletter for the school website.
